Student Admission - The Invisible Thread: When Grief is Complicated
June 18, 2026 from 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM, virtual via Zoom
This intermediate workshop workshop is designed to help therapists and helpers identify and normalize the emotions and experiences clients may have in the wake of losses of many sorts. We will learn about the types of complicated grief and what factors contribute to the complication of the grieving process. Time will be spent explaining the needs of mourning and how to help clients who may appear to be “stuck” in some way as they seek to integrate their losses. We will use real life case studies to illustrate how this “invisible thread” often impacts not only healing but the individual’s functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life.
Jan Owen is a Licensed Professional Counselor and owner of Back Porch Counseling in Huntsville, Alabama. She specializes in working with adult clients dealing with grief, trauma, and spiritual issues. She is certified in EMDR, offering EMDR intensives at her therapy cabin. Jan also holds certifications in Death and Grief Studies and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. She believes in normalizing clients’ human responses to the distressing events and losses they have experienced so they can be empowered to find a path forward. She is an ordained minister and received her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Alabama. She is also the author of “Fighting Forward: A Widow’s Journey From Loss to Life”.
Admission choices include a rate for CE Credit and an accessibility rate for clinicians who will not receive CE credit. Please be attentive to your selection at checkout. Please note that no attendees who select this admission will be issues CE credit.
This workshop is pending approval for 3 Core CE hours for Social Workers and Professional Counselors licensed in Georgia.
