This workshop is geared towards clinicians looking to learn and explore the impact of adverse religious experiences on clients, increase competency in working with folks with religious trauma, and wanting to gain insight into how to support queer and trans clients navigating the holiday season. In this workshop, we’ll cover definitions related to religious trauma, the impact it can have on self-concept and interpersonal relationships, and ways to support queer and trans clients with religious trauma in both navigating and reclaiming the holidays. Attendees will leave this presentation with a deeper understanding of religious trauma and specific ways to support queer and trans clients around the holidays.
Liz Rhea is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Atlanta, Georgia. As a solo-practice owner, Liz sees older adolescents and adults navigating complex trauma, religious trauma, and identity exploration in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Delaware, Maine, & Minnesota. Her work is deeply relational and rooted in queer theory, harm reduction, and the reclamation model. Outside of her clinical work, Liz is a Founding Organizer for Let’s Talk About It, offers consultation and trainings, and creates content on Instagram & Tiktok.
